America’s present population growth is caused by two factors: (1) a high rate of net migration (immigration exceeding emigration) into America and (2) higher-than-replacement fertility rates among certain groups, e. g., adherents of some religions as well as some groups of legal immigrants and illegal aliens. There are several national organizations which address the first cause and one major national organization which addresses the second cause. |

CONTRIBUTE MONEY
Several populationist organizations make it easy for you to communicate with politicians and media editors regarding your concern about America’s addiction to population growth. In addition, several of these organizations provide opportunities for you to meet other populationists and participate in grassroots political activities. I believe you will find communicating with other populationists and, if you choose, participating in group activities will inspire you to work even harder on behalf of Americans yet unborn.
One organization, Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) is committed to stabilizing the population of California and of America and is dedicated to preserving the natural environment from its greatest threat--population growth. CAPS is unique in that it addresses both causes of population growth in America--(1) high net inward migration and (2) high fertility rates among some groups. Consequently, CAPS works with national and regional organizations concerned with high net inward migration and/or high fertility rates as well as with environmental organizations.
There are only four major national environmental environmental organizations which exhibit interest in population issues and which I believe may merit support from populationists. My personal favorite is Izaak Walton League of America because of its willingness to address net inward migration along with fertility.
Ultimately, I recommend you contact those organizations whose interests appear to match your own and decide for yourself which are the “best fit.” Several populationist organizations are described in Appendix B of The Population Fix. Each can be reached via www.ThinkPopulation.org. There you will also see what rating, if any, each organization has been given by Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance. |
